What You'll Need

Gather everything below before you begin.

  • EZ Vent (2.5", 4", or 6" — match to your enclosure)
  • Matching hole saw
  • Drill + small bit for pilot hole
  • EZ Vent centering jig (recommended) or tape measure
  • Deburring tool or knife
  • Marker or pencil
Step 1

Already Have a Hole?

If your bin already has a hole that's too small, use our resizing jigs to enlarge it. Place the jig over the existing hole and cut outward to the size you need, then skip ahead to deburring.

Starting from scratch? Use the skip button to go straight to marking.

Mark Your Center Point

Use the EZ Vent Jig

Fast and purpose-built. No measuring required.

Tape measure

Measure from edges, mark center with pencil, then skip the next step.

Step 3

Using the EZ Vent Jig

Each EZ Vent jig is designed to position the drill point for you automatically — no measuring required.

  1. Hold the jig with the printed text facing toward you.
  2. Position the jig as designed — it will seat correctly against your bin.
  3. The center hole sits at the correct position. Using the 1/4" pilot drill bit without the hole saw attached you will drill though the 1/4" hole in the jig.
A second variant aligns using the handle cutout area of the bin.

Step 4

Drill the Pilot Hole

Drill straight through the jig the 1/4" drill bit. Keep the drill perpendicular to the bin wall.

The pilot hole stops the hole saw from skating across the plastic surface when you start cutting.
Step 5

Cut the Vent Hole

Attach a hole saw matching your EZ Vent size. Cut through the bin wall with steady, even pressure. Use the lowest speed (1) on the drill to minimize melting or cracking the plastic.

Don't force the saw — it can crack the bin or produce rough edges.

Step 6

Deburr the Edge

Run a deburring tool around the inside of the hole to remove sharp plastic edges.

No deburring tool? A knife works — cut slowly away from your fingers. Don't skip this: sharp edges can injure animals and prevent the vent seating correctly.
Step 7

Install the EZ Vent

The EZ Vent is two parts that thread together through the bin wall.

  1. Place the side not holding the screen in the opening making sure it is seated flush with the wall. If it is not flush then using the deburring tool slightly enlarge the opening.
  2. Align the screen side of the EZ Vent on the opposite side of the hole side.
  3. Rotate counter-clockwise (opposite of tightening) until threads catch.
  4. Switch to clockwise — continuing to press inward — until snug.
  5. Ensure all the threads have caught by making sure both sides are flush with the wall. If not, loosen and retighten.
Counter-clockwise to find the thread, clockwise to tighten. This prevents cross-threading every time.

Complete

You're All Set.

Give the vent a gentle tug — it should not rotate or pull free. Repeat for any additional vents.
